Your Nervous System and Your Business

Your nervous system and your business are intimately related. Beneath the surface all day (and all night) long, your nervous system is skillfully directing and guiding your hormones, your energy levels, your motivation- and even your thoughts.

How does your nervous system’s state show up in your business?

If you’re chronically or frequently stuck in a fight/ flight response, it might look like…

✔️lots of scattered, unfocused energy and ideas that can’t quite land

✔️ heart racing, jitteriness, or shallow breath when you have a presentation or meeting

✔️on constant hyper-alert, with thoughts like: did I do the right move? say the right thing? how did they respond to my offer? (should I have done something differently?) 

✔️ anxious about the future… you’re never quite able to settle and enjoy what you’re building and creating because you’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

If you’re chronically or frequently in a freeze/ collapse/ shutdown response, it might look like…

✔️ ideas that never see the light of day (or take way too long to get there).

✔️  brilliant in your head— but SO much work to move your creations out into the world

✔️ a feeling of “moving through mud” or pushing to get things done

✔️ persistent thoughts of “I can’t” or “what’s the use” — EVEN when you totally know that’s not true

…given how much our nervous systems have been through (especially over the past few years), it can be helpful to notice: where do you typically go under stress?

Where does your nervous system go?

Do you go towards fight/ flight? Towards freeze?

Do you bounce between the two — or have both stuck on at once? (Being stuck on both fight/ flight AND freeze is more common than you might think, especially with certain types of early attachment patterning).

If your nervous system’s in dysregulation, it’s not about working harder or doing more. And, despite what you might have heard, it’s NOT necessarily because you’re “in resistance” or “don’t want it enough”

If you’re doing all the things, and still running into the constant blocks, this is often about the stress physiology running the show (rather than your creative power).

Shifting this isn’t about mindset. It’s about understanding how to regulate on a body level… so that the ongoing stream of thoughts, emotions, and actions come from flow and not fight.
